Makeovers

I found an old tin that used to contain a fruit cake from Myer. Seeing that it was still in pretty good condition and I particularly liked the stripes around the sides, I decided that there was no need to repaint the whole tin. Instead, I just stuck on my monogram onto the lid using some craft glue.

Tada!

I live for cheap thrills.

I cut my wonderfully long and painstakingly well kept fingernails today, in anticipation of going back to the dental world.

No more nice fingernails.

Ways To Save

As the date of my graduation nears, I feel compelled to start saving money. After years of depending on my parents for everything, it has suddenly hit me that in 10 months or so - it's all going to be up to me to feed myself.

I read up a few random articles on how to save money and these are a few tips that I particularly like and definitely apply to me:

1. Bring bottled water everywhere - I got into the bad habit of just buying a new bottle of water from 7-11 every time I forgot to bring a bottle out. Must make it a point to bring bottled water out as part of my daily bag packing routine.

2. Stop eating snacks - Seeing how I easily down 2 bags of chips a week if I choose to buy and stock them, not buying them would save me at least AUD4 a week. Plus, I stay thinner!

3. Keep track of expenses - This is a very difficult one. I always try to do it but after 2 days, I veer off track. Must try harder.

4. Do your own grooming - That includes eyebrow shaping, manicures and pedicures, etc etc etc.

5. Finish everything you buy before buying the next thing - For example, if you accidentally bought a shower gel that you happen to hate the scent of, finish it!!! That way you will never have a whole bathroomful of half used shower gels, half used shampoos etc etc etc.

I'll stick to these 5 first and see how I go. I kinda do 4 most of the time now, and am in the process of finishing off all my random half bottles of things.

Wish me luck.

Nails

I am still obsessed with my nails.

First I went for solid colours. Then I went into the french manicure phase. Now? I love nail stickers.

Bought a whole lot of them in the past two days.

I used to think that they were tacky but I've decided that with the right base colour and the right stickers, they can be quite pleasing aesthetically.

I dread the day when I have to cut my fingernails i.e. the day I go back to being a dental student.

I'll put up some pictures if I can be bothered to.

As a side note, I'm so sad Nadal lost - but so happy Federer lost! I hope Djokovic wins, although one must grudgingly admit that Tsonga is also worthy.

Back to obsessing.

Hair

I just spent 6 hours at the hairdresser's, getting my hair all curly and coloury and trimmy.

Was it worth it? I guess so. The price was exorbitant but hey - nobody said that doing stuff to almost waist long hair was cheap.

I say almost waist long because it's still not waist long after years of trying to get my hair there. Now it's barely halfway down my back due to the new springy curls.

Exhausted.

Blogging

I know now that my blog does not truly chronicle my life to its completeness.

True - I write breezy articles about how I had so much fun when I went out, how successful my baking has been, how good my life is. Which is true. But other things that are also true I do not write.

I suppose we do not expose our darkest secrets for the world to see. But I am starting to feel that this blog is not going to help me when I look back 5 years from now - because what I have truly been experiencing won't be written down.

I realized this when I flipped through my blog to a day I was so distraught because of something that hurt me so deeply that even a year later I remember it vividly. Yet on my blog - all I wrote for that week were more frothy epistles.

As far as my blog is concerned it never happened.

Considering making my blog private.

My Lucky Star

I got sucked into the evils of Taiwanese dramas. Again.

This time, it's called 'My Lucky Star' and it's about a rich boy and a poor girl. No surprise there.

So. Addicted. Be my guest and get addicted too. You can watch it here. They have English subtitles! Which is great, seeing I only understand about 10% of what's going on without it.

Scones

I finally managed to bake a successful batch of scones. All previous batches turned out hard like rocks - but this one finally came out soft, fragrant and scone-y.

The secret I believe, is the recipe. I followed the recipe of this YouTuber. You can get it here. It's easy and quick - I promise.

A Dream Home

I visited a millionaire's home yesterday.

It was large, with 3 stories. For one lonely person living there.

I wonder how he does it. What does he do with himself? Amuse himself by cleaning the house??

Anyway, I came home and built my dream house in my mind. It looks good in there.

Now I can return to the reality of life and be contented with what I have.

Back To School In Batu Pahat

Uni has started.

Except not really for me :D

According to my timetable, I'm supposed to be doing some form of elective experience thing in some other dental institution. So I chose to have a look at the Batu Pahat Dental Clinic. Thing is, I haven't actually gotten permission to do that yet. So still bumming around.

Been keeping myself busy with random projects and Australian Open.

I don't want my holiday to end can this break last forever?

More monograms

More monograms that I particularly like:

Isn't the last one with the hey diddle diddle scene so juvenile? But I love it!

Labels:

Telepathy

In my home, people expect you to know everything just because they know it.

For example, I'm supposed to just somehow know that today is laundry day and therefore I have to hang up the clothes. I'm also supposed to know that I have to chop up vegetables for lunch.

Sheesh..

Monogramming

I confess I'm crazily in love with monograms.

Examples of a couple that I made today:

One's for my best friend since childhood and one's for myself! Will post others as I go along.

Monogrammed Stationery

Dental Girl's latest obsession - monograms.

I just like the idea of having things that are personalized. According to some, it is a sign of narcissism. What do I think? I think that one has to love one's self - in moderate amounts - of course.

Anyway, been working on several projects at once. Will post them up when they are all complete (currently all are truncated due to lack of materials).

P/S: After about 2 months of nail polish wearing, I have concluded that the best way to take care of your nails is to just do nothing. Lol...

Memory Lane

I was digging around in the drawers of my room and stumbled upon my old diaries. Yes - before I got into blogging, I used to write down my daily happenings on paper.

They were written when I was young and naive - a young and tender 12-15 years old. How I laughed over them!! So many incidents that I have completely forgotten were written there. I never knew that

1. I studied so hard. Every day I'd write down what I'd done for the day in terms of study - it was scary.

2. I was so stressed out. There's an entry where I got 98% for a History test and I was so upset. Man....

3. I was perpetually waiting. My parents were late for picking me up from school. My music teacher came late for classes. Etc.

4. I was sick very often. Almost every month I'd be down with tonsillitis. Not pretty.

5. I talked on the phone all the time.

6. I woke up late. Even at that age, I was already sleeping at 2-3 and waking up at 11. Baddd...

7. I spent the entire Sunday in church. Morning service, Youth Fellowship and then we'd stay on just to have fun.

8. There were many tuitions to attend.

Conclusion? I am so happy I'm all grown up now. Kinda.

My latest obsession is making everything from scratch.

In the movie "Accepted", the guy installs a clap light that not only turns on the light, but turns on a disco ball and music. Corny - but I love it!!

Removing Contact Lenses

I've started to get my nails longer since there's no dentistry to practice and therefore there's no law that states that I have to keep my fingernails short. However, my long fingernails have been making it difficult for me to get my contact lenses out of my eye.

Happily, I found 2 ways to get contact lenses out if you have long fingernails thanks to the world wide web.

1. Take the middle knuckle of your index finger and place it on the lens and in a ā€œJā€ motion sweep the lens down and to the side using you whole finger in the process. The lens will roll up into the side of your eye for you to take out.

2. Use your index and middle finger to pinch the contact lense out of the eye.

Had more success with the first one.

Resolutions

I have finally decided that I shall resolve to:

1. Study at least 3 nights a week - Apparently that's so little, people are wondering how I even got into dentistry. Hmph... I meant throughout the whole year, not 4 weeks before the exam!

2. List down 3 things to be grateful about each day - I started this last year for about a month, but slowly gave it up. Shall renew my attempt.

On another note, 15 minutes into the new year, I dropped my glasses on the floor and broke one of the lenses. Not the best start in the world.

Well - things happen.
