Scarf Stress

I started several times, and have ripped off whatever I started several times.

6 hours of knitting down the drain.

Sick and tired of trying to find the pattern for my future new black cashmere scarf.

Can You Do A 36O In One Hour?

There was 1 hour left in the session.

Demonstrator: Let's see if there's anything small that you can do. Are you good at occlusals?
Me: I'm alright...but I don't think I should do it.
Demonstrator: Yeah, better not. This is probably going to be a big cavity.

The truth is, I can cut a cavity and fill it in an hour. Question is, do you have the time to check my LA, check my cavity prep, check my finish product - each stage at least a 10 minute wait for my poor patient? And is your stupid internet linked patient management system going to let me log in to let me write up the patient records??

Hate waiting. Love demonstrators who only want to see the finish product and have the ability to come see what's going on in less than a minute.

Ohhh, and did I mention that I was considered to 'need' assistance because I didn't check the perio chart before commencing scale and clean??

The chart wasn't even correct!! And that woman doesn't even have perio! She was just here for a routine clean!!!!!

How I Will Say I Love You

Absolutely obsessed with this song.

Sing the blues - I'll listen intently,
Call my name - I'll be at your door.
Cry out loud - I'll hold you till it's over,
And that's how I will say I love you.

Fall asleep - I'll wake up beside you,
Feel my heart beating next to yours,
Lose your way - I promise I will find you,
And that's how I will say I love you.

What would I do to show my love to you?
Leave my whole world for one minute with you.

Break the rules - I'll bend them around you,
Play the fool - I would never know,
Break my heart - I'll still be glad I found you,
And that's how I will say I love you.

I was eating really good small portions when I first got back. Unfortunately, it's only been 3 weeks and now my portion sizes are ballooning.

My way to get over is to shrink the size of my plates and bowls.

And keep my mind busy with things other than food.

Bumpy Outing

I stepped into Big W in QV and bumped into a friend from the time when I was still in Trinity College.

I went elsewhere and bumped into my housemate who was also out with another friend.

I went to Melbourne Central and bumped into another friend from Trinity.

Then I got off the tram on the way home and bumped into one of my classmates.

Did I also mention that I had to go out again after I got home because I left my passport at the phone shop where I was renewing my phone plan?

No more bumps at that time, but I vow never to be so feather-headed again - until the next episode of featheriness.

I've moved on to my next obsession - felt craft.

Just made a sunglass pouch last night after hours of agonizing about how to set the pattern on.

I would post up a picture of it - except my computer is so slow I feel that waiting for it to happen will break my spirit.

The reason why I've taken a break from knitting is because my hands actually hurt from over-knitting. Therefore, exploring other crafts instead.

Also trying to think of cake decorating ideas for a 21st party coming up soon. So far no inspiration.

Back from Self-Imposed Knitting Camp

So sorry I haven't been updating for a while. The truth is - my life was consumed by knitting.

I woke up and got onto the train to go to clinic - and I knitted.

I waited for patients to show up. While waiting, I knitted.

On the way home on the train and tram - I knitted.

When I picnicked in the park - I knitted.

In other words, every waking moment that wasn't occupied - I knitted.

The good news is I managed to finish one vest and one long sleeved cardigan bolero thingie in less than 3 weeks! Hah!

Here's a picture of me in the park - knitting. Well, trying on my half finished sweater.

Incidentally, this week in dentistry has been strange.

Firstly, one of my patients stole my mirror and probe. Yes, stole it. Didn't get it back because I didn't actually see it happen and therefore couldn't accuse patient. Nurses and demonstrator were irate. I was disturbed and lost faith in all patients.

Secondly, I opened sent the x-rays for developing and in the packet were not one x ray film but 2. I only realized that after I took my hand out of the lightbox thing and saw that there was a film in my hand. Panicked for a while - thinking I was stupid enough to feed in a piece of paper instead of the film but concluded I couldn't have been that stupid. Anyway, it came out underdeveloped - probably because there were 2 sheets of film to get through instead of one?

Thinking of learning how to knit socks next. However, my first 4 attempts have ended in shambles i.e. me yanking off all the stitches off the needle...angry. Knitting with double pointed needles drives me crazy!

I think I need lessons.

So Close..

I'm about 2cm from the competion of my sweater. Problem is, each round is 380 stitches, and it's about 5 rounds.

So. Sick. Of. Knitting.

Twenty Three

This is one of the best birthdays I've had in a long time.

The gods smiled benevolently down on me.

The god of dentistry gave me a patient with not one tooth to extract. No no. Not one. Not two. Five. Admitably I couldn't extract the last two - they were in their snug sockets and were pretty happy to stay there. But still - five!

I've managed to finish knitting half of the back of my current cropped cardigan project. And my friends celebrated my birthday with me.

I feel loved and blessed. Thanks to everyone who gave me one of the best days I've ever had. I truly appreciate it.

Back At One

Since there's nothing to do on the train on the way to various placements, I have decided to start knitting again.

That has sparked off a desire to hoard even more yarn than I already have.

Popped into eBay and was pleasantly surprised (or perhaps, unpleasant. I'm not sure how I feel) to see that yarn that I bought about 8 months ago is now 15 dollars more expensive.

Glad I bought enough to knit 4 jumpers the last time I plunked my money down.

iPod Cover

I was surfing around for nice cross stitch patterns and stumbled in here. They have a very nice collection of free cross stitch designs, and I particularly liked this pattern - which was why I stitched it up.

I didn't really know what to do with the completed project after I had finished because it was so small. However, inspiration hit me and I the tailor helped me stitch it up into a nice little cover for my iPod to keep it snug and warm.

E is for Echinacea, commonly called a purple coneflower. As well as my first name.

Aging Gracefully

Yesterday me and my friend treated a patient in one of the community clinic. The chart said she was 93 years old.

Thus we were quite amazed when a old lady who could still walk and move very well literally bounced into the surgery. Immediately, you could feel her aura of optimism and independence.

She still lives alone - "I don't want to be a burden to anyone. I have a little scooter to get around so I can just go to the shops, post office and the grocery store that way. I love my independence."

On the weather forecasts - "Everyone complains that the weather forecast always claims that it rains but it never does. But just because it didn't rain in your street doesn't mean it didn't rain 3 streets away! People shouldn't be so hard on the weatherman."

When she choked on water from the ultrasonic scaler, she apologized for being such a difficult patient. When we assured her that this was a common happening and she shouldn't be embarassed about it - "But I don't want to be common! Not if it gives trouble to other people."

I shall try to be more like her and wish all patients were that way.

Stop it!!

Me: Do you know about this subject, X?
Friend: Yes, I do. The only way to achieve X is to Y.
Me: Are you sure? You can't do Z??
Friend: Nope. Y is the only solution.

So turns out you can do Z.

Me: can do Z! I just tried it.
Friend: Yeah, I said you can. Didn't you know that already? *duh look on face*
Me: ............You told me one can only do Y.
Friend: No, I didn't. Obviously you can do Z too!

I. Abhor. People. Like. That.

The day of my flight back to Melbourne, I met up with my 2 cousins in Singapore.

One of the most amusing things I heard for the day was the fact that when one of my cousins was young, she had an interesting habit.

After savouring a sandwich minus the last bite, she would save the last bite for later. She'd leave it around on the table or wherever, and then - some time after - she'll finish it off.

I'm still laughing.

Embroidery Thread

I took out my collection of embroidery thread from my cupboard a few weeks ago.

I used to keep them all in boxes like this but I speedily concluded it was a bad idea and it was time for a better organizing system to be put into place.

So I took them all out and sorted them by number on my bed.

Then I was too tired to do anything anymore - and put them all back into the boxes.

Yup, there is absolutely no point in this post.

Every New Beginning...

Tomorrow I'm heading back to Melbourne. I have mixed feelings about this.

Many people ask me if I am dying of boredom in Batu Pahat. After all, what is there to do?

The truth of the matter is that I am quite contented to just stay at home the whole day, doing homemaker things like learning a new recipe, doing a new craft project and just pottering about, reorganizing drawers and looking for more containers so that I can arrange things in better ways.

I sound crazy!

Anyway, I know I'm going to miss the days when I just sat around doing nothing - not being expected to do anything. This is probably the last time I'll be home for 7 weeks.

Sick and tired of my earphones perpetually in a tangle, I Googled for a solution.

Watch this! It really works.
